Summary:
Google Media Server is a Google Gadget - an add-on for Google Desktop.
It is reported to have poor user interface, major glitches about server losing visibility of the media files, poor streaming quality of the video and consuming vast amounts of memory.
Our take:
While the idea is very nice, it seems that glitches, underdevelopment and lack of support for platforms other than Windows kills it for most users.
On the other hand, it might have great potential, since it's Google. Once Google moves some resources to it from Wave and Voice - we might see something more promising.
